Festung Europa: The Campaign for Western Europe, 1943-1945 is a two player game simulating the Second World War in the European Theatre of Operations between the fall of Tunis in May, 1943 and the final Axis surrender in 1945. The game is based on the card system used in MMP’s award-nominated Shifting Sands: The Campaign for North Africa, 1940-1943.
Product Information:
Complexity: 5 out of 10. It’s definitely on the lighter side compared to PoG or even Shifting Sands.
Solitaire suitability: always difficult to say. It’s not a solitaire game, so in that sense it’s low, but could a player play a card-driven game solitaire? Sure. My own view would be 5 out of 10.
Time Scale: Seasonal turns with six action rounds per turn – action rounds represent about two weeks.
Map Scale: 70 miles per hex.
Unit Scale: Army and Corps, with Axis Fortress units.
Players: 2 or solitaire
Playing Time: 4-5 hours
Number of Scenarios: The campaign game and an Overlord scenario.
